There are things that really get on my nerves like when my phone or laptop battery runs out of power when I need it most. I used to have a battery that would last all day. Now it barely lasts a few hours. I know batteries get worse over time. Sometimes its because of things I can change. If I understand why my battery is not doing well I can make it last longer and get use out of my device.
1. My Screen Is Bright
My screen uses a lot of battery power. If I keep it on a setting it can really hurt my battery life especially on my phone or laptop.
How to fix this:
I can turn down the screen brightness by hand.
I can also turn on the auto-brightness feature.
If I use a mode that adjusts the screen it really helps with the battery life on fancy screens.
2. I Have Apps Open
A lot of apps keep running even when I’m not using them. They might be getting my location. Sending me messages and that uses battery power.
How to fix this:
I should close the apps I’m not using.
I can also tell some apps not to run in the background when I’m not using them.
It’s an idea to check how much battery power each app is using.
3. I Have Location Services On All The Time
The GPS and location feature can really hurt my battery especially if a lot of apps are always asking where I am.
How to fix this:
I can turn off location services when I’m not using them.
I can also tell my device to use location services when I’m using an app.
If an app doesn’t need to know where I am I can turn off the location feature for that app.
4. My Software Is Out Of Date
Software can have problems that hurt my battery life. The people who make my device often put out updates that help with battery life.
How to fix this:
I should keep my devices operating system up to date.
I should also update my apps regularly.
If I have an app thats not getting updates anymore I should probably delete it.
5. I Get Notifications
Every time I get a notification my device has to wake up connect to the internet and show me the message. If I get a lot of notifications it can really hurt my battery life
.
How to fix this:
I can turn off notifications for apps I don’t need to hear from.
I can also limit notifications to the apps that’re really important.
If I don’t need to know when I get an email I can turn off email notifications.
6. I Have A Bad Network Signal
When my device is having trouble connecting to the internet or getting a phone signal it uses power. This happens a lot in areas where the signals not very strong.
How to fix this:
I should use Wi-Fi when I can.
If I’m in an area with no signal I can turn on airplane mode.
When I’m traveling I can turn off the feature that makes my device look for a signal all the time.
My Battery Is Just Getting Old
All batteries get worse over time. After I charge my device a lot of times the battery won’t hold power like it used to.
How to fix this:
I can check to see how healthy my battery is if my device lets me.
If my battery is getting old I might need to replace it.
I shouldn’t leave my device in places.
Use Things That Use A Lot Of Power
Things like Bluetooth using my device as a hotspot and watching videos can really hurt my battery life.
How to fix this:
I can turn off Bluetooth when I’m not using it.
I can also turn off the hotspot feature when I don’t need it.
If I can I should turn down the screen refresh rate.
When I need to save battery life I shouldn’t do things that use a lot of power.
The Way I Charge My Device Might Be Hurting The Battery
If I always let my battery die all the way or if I keep it charged all the time it can hurt the battery over time.
How to fix this:
I should try to keep my battery between 20% and 80% charged.
I should use the charger that came with my device.
If my device doesn’t have a charging feature I shouldn’t charge it all night.
Might Have A App Or Virus
Sometimes a bad app or virus can hurt my battery life without me even knowing it.
How to fix this:
I should only get apps from places I trust.
I should check my device for viruses regularly.
If I see an app using a lot of battery power I should delete it.
In the end when my battery dies quickly it’s usually because of a lot of things, not a bad battery. Things like my screen apps running in the background and a bad network signal can all hurt my battery life.

If I change some of my settings update my software and am careful, about how I use my device I can make my battery longer.
